Medical fitness standards are updated continuously. Those wishing to review the current European medical standards should visit JAR - FCL Part 3 (Medical) on the Joint Aviation Authorities (JAA) web site. The international standard is published by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) in Montreal. This is a general standard and many States, including the European JAA signitories, have developed their own interpretation of the medical fitness requirements. ICAO is accessible via the ICAO web site.

The UK CAA publishes a series of algorithms representing an interpretation of the the JAA medical requirements on its web site. These cover the majority of the problems commonly encountered in the(cardiological) certification of aircrew and indicate the steps needed to be taken to clarify cerificatory status.
